The picture books are very tempting, but since I'm in a middle school I will be good & stick with the young adult titles for now... (& I will get my fix of picture books at home with my kids...although I do have a picture book collection at my school & I think many are appropriate at the middle school level & can be used effectively in teaching, introducing material & of course can still be enjoyed by all... )

If any of the following are available I will try:

The kid's building workshop ; Animal Movement, & Animal Homes ...

Here's my bookreading experience:
I have lunch-time book clubs "Book Bistros" in the media center - the students bring their lunch & eat while I read to them...this year I have tons of 5th graders & had to make 4 different days instead of my planned one (& I still have 20-30 students in each group). We are reading books nominated for the MA Children's Book Award: Once Upon a Marigold, The Boy who Saved Baseball, Gregor the Overlander, & Chasing Vermeer.
My 6th grade group is a nice group of about 10 students - we are reading Gregor the Overlander.
My 7th grader group consists of about 5 girls - we are reading Once Upon a Marigold
8th grade is the big challenge - I currently have a small group of 5 students - all from the intensive special needs program ... we have been reading poetry, short stories, and parts of non-fiction books (most recently "Fabulous Feasts" - for our Thanksgiving theme)
Hopefully as the 5th grade "graduates" into higher grades, my groups in those grades will also grow...
