Mouse Island is a charming story about a mouse who lives on an island. The lighthouse keeper has moved away and mouse is all alone. He is well-fed, warm and entertained daily by the sea lions and whales who pass nearby. Despite all this, Mouse knows something is missing in his life. One day, a fishing boat near shore runs into trouble and one of the passengers is tossed far from the men. Mouse springs into action and saves the day, dragging the creature to shore! When they are finally beached, he can see what he has saved: a CAT! For a few pages, the reader is convinced Mouse is doomed, but then Cat explains that he is an "honorable cat" and will not eat his savior. Instead, he offers to teach Mouse to play beach volleyball and Mouse doesn't feel so empty anymore.

Mouse Island is beautifully illustrated and a fun story about friendship and courage. Young kids will have fun predicting what Cat will do to Mouse when he wakes up and will enjoy seeing a different outcome.
